Today we took a short trip north from Founex to Nyon, a lovely town founded long ago (50BC) by the Romans. We went to one museum that was constructed underground in the foundation of a Roman basilica. Then we went to see the strange "Chateau Nyon," that was constructed in the 13th century as housing for the gentry of Savoy and then eventually became an administrative building and jail until 1980. It is a really strange and grand castle structure with beautiful rooms and views of Lake Geneva, and then there are these bizarre and creepy old intact (with graffiti) prison cells on the top floors, with heavy reinforced wood and iron doors... Really weird.
